DAoC MAPS - DAoC Shaman Template
The perfect DAoC shaman template is a matter of choice and this article, written by a DAoC vet who plays an RvR shaman as a main character, strives to reach that elusive perfection. Below are his DAoC shaman template specs along with notes taken over many years of defending Midgard against Albion and Hibernia in Dark Age of Camelot. This is not a bot template, it’s playable and very effective.
Notes about this Shaman Template
~ First the DAoC Shaman Spec: 41 aug, 35 cave, 3 mend on a Frostalf char.
At 41 aug and 35 cave spec the shaman receives all yellow con specialization spells in both lines and that’s a very good thing, read on to see why. What? no healing? yes there is… this template features many tricks of the trade you wouldn’t normally think about when looking at pure numbers.
#1 – This template swaps out a pair of buff enhancement rings which serve to cap buffs and make it very group friendly in RvR, a must if you want to get through the low realm rank levels. As of Jan 1st, 2010, if you put on a buff enhancement item and cast a buff and then swap out or remove the buff enhancement item the buff remains stronger and the buffs from this template are HIGHER than those received from the npc buff giver at the frontier keeps.
#2 – This template is built with the realm ability “Mastery of Focus II” in mind which will effectively raise the level value of all cave spells even though they are yellow con already. Please note that the spells will still do yellow con damage but the resistance rate will be greatly reduced with MoF2 or (MoF3 if you so desire). Remember that the baseline spells, also known as the spells you get from just being level 50, will still con purple at 35 cave and those include the shaman single target DoT and single target snare. The area or AoE versions of these spells are also effective thanks to the buffs and Mastery realm ability ensuring they hit. The realm ability “Wild Power” is highly recommended so that your shaman is not only hitting the target it’s got a significant chance to crit as well.
tip: by going with 41 aug and 35 cave instead of 41 cave your baseline single target DoT will do MORE damage because the buffs you give yourself are stronger, damage is dex/piety based. The extra stats from higher aug result in roughly an extra 15 damage points per tick to the cave baseline DoT spell.
So far the two factors above should show you that an Aug/Cave shaman is actually not as bad a character to group as is widely believed, in fact if it’s well played it can turn battles around with a timely snare or extra punch. Healing is taken care of via baseline heal spells which are roughly equivalent to lvl 30 spec spells (it’s not worth putting points into healing unless you plan on going past 35 with it, not recommended) and with the master level ability Vehement Renewal if in a jam which shamans get as a realm ability choice. All of these factors, combined on a character that is wearing chain armor, and thanks to the fact that template below has cap resists (including melee resists in the 30’s and heat/cold in the 40’s) makes an aug/cave shaman more versatile than ever.
#3 – Two items give an instant 50% power regen, the boots and shield, and are on separate timers so power is never a real issue. If it is, or if you PvE a lot, you have access to the font of power (and heal) from the perfector master ability line.
#4 – If someone or something is attacking in melee and interrupting casts the Mastery of Concentration (MoC) realm ability is available or, thanks to this template, you can melee effectively with sword styles that slow the attacker. By champion level 3 you will have enough champ points to spec in getting two different champion styles in a chain (what the… shamans can melee with sword styles? yes!) when you unlock champion level 3 you can use all weapon types and purchase styles from the viking champ trainer).
While it’s not recommended you attempt to kill an opponent outright with melee it is an option that will buy you time, once the attacker is low you can sprint away and nuke from range with your bolt. In fact while your sword is out you look nothing like a typical shaman and may be ignored for a more juicy target in RvR, long enough to land a key snare or disease/dot. Shamans also get the first aid and purge realm abilities to stay healthy and strong. Ask any stealther that has run into one of these and promptly gotten rooted (or Ichor’d) if it was any fun. Unfortunately most shamans simply aren’t using all the tools available.
The DAoC Shaman Template Itself with notes added: You may have seen this basic template posted in several places online, it’s solid to begin with, consider this article the complete package including test results.

Note about Legs: These legs are the most expensive (as of Jan 2010) item in this template and fall from the ML 10 boss Draco. They tend to cost upwards of 50-60 plat in game right now. You can replace these with player made legs and retain the hits and con. On MP playermade leggings you can also add +4 to cave and add a little strength to improve Champ sword style damage. You can also choose the proc effect on playermade and legs get hit frequently so take that into consideration if plat is limited.

Swap Out Items for Buff Enhancement Benefits
- Any item with buff enhancement can be used, see #1 at the top of this guide. A pair of Filigree Antalya Rings would be perfect to keep things simple, just remember to put on the Torrent rings when done buffing!
If you have a shaman bot hopefully this guide will encourage you to make a few changes in template/spec and take this bad boy out for a few rounds. You don’t have to sacrifice buffs (and groupability) to take advantage of the offense a shaman can provide, get to it!
