Realm versus Realm (RvR) – Dark Age of Camelot got it right

RvR, also called Player versus Player (PvP), fighting is the central focus in Dark Age of Camelot. Siege engines, castles, keeps, frontiers and groups of friends need defending from enemy realms. Realm points are awarded for some tasks, such as killing an enemy or capturing a keep, and they can be used to power up a character by using them to purchase special abilities or items. Albion, Hibernia, and Midgard are in a three way battle against each other to capture control of powerful relics, keeps and towers. A central dungeon, Darkness Falls, is only open to the realm controlling the most frontier keeps. Of all online games DAoC is said to have come closest to creating the perfect RvR model.

About Mythic Entertainment – Makers of Dark Age of Camelot

Mythic Entertainment was founded in October of 1995 by Rob Denton and Mark Jacobs, two passionate text-based roleplaying game designers. Mythic released its first game, Castles II Online, in 1996 with just 9 employees on staff. Since 1996 Mythic has grown to over 170 employees and has received several coveted awards including being on the top 500 companies of the year list in 2004. Dark Age of Camelot raised the bar on what is expected from online games and the new Mythic title, Warhammer Online, proves to carry on that excellence after release in 2008. Mythic is now owned by Electronic Arts – EA Games.
